When the property was due for a refresh, its operators saw upgrading its lobby as an opportunity to distinguish the hotel in the highly competitive Miami market. 'The entire premise for the renovation was we knew we were the oldest Marriott in the market. With a refurbishment, the goal was to make a positioning statement that was completely fresh and also on or above par for all of the Marriott brand standards," said John Mulrey, general manager of the hotel.
Also influencing the renovation was the Miami Airport Marriott's specific location within the city. "We have always strived so be more than just an 'airport hotel.' In fact, we actually try to downplay that aspect of the property and concentrate more on making the airport element disappear and offer an oasis of relaxation for our customers," Mulrey said. continued…
