A faux finish of Lustrestone can give a wall a glamorous sheen.

Kubli likes the look of faux finishes with metallic accents. "The shimmer can be fantastic in a dining room or bedroom, because it gives a romantic glow," she says.

A wall can become a piece of artwork by applying picture frame-style molding, and adding a faux finish with paint or stencils within the framework.

Some homeowners want the look of stone. One faux option is Venetian plaster, which contains marble dust. If is applied with a trowel, and then burnished by hand to create a high sheen. "It requires a lot of manual labor, so it can be expensive." Kubli says.

Other choices are products like Lustrestone or Shimmerstone, which produce reflective surfaces with either dull or high sheens. "They're applied by hand so they have depth, and they can be good choices if budget is a concern," Kubli says." >>>
