In homes with traditional décor, chandeliers can still be a good choice. When a ceiling is too low to accommodate a chandelier, however, a homeowner can dress up a flush-mount light fixture or high hats with decorative hanging crystals. “They’re easy to attach and add a new look,” Kubli says.

Wall sconces can provide attractive ambient lighting. Kubli also likes to place a pair of buffet lamps on matching consoles on either side of the front door. “The lamps draw the eye up to ceiling details, and the matched consoles create a sense of grandeur,” she says.

In a large foyer, a table placed in the center of the space can become a dramatic focal point. “You can top it with a beautiful floral arrangement, or a collection of accessories,” Kubli says.

A chest or cabinet can be both decorative and functional. “It provides additional storage,” Kubli adds. ■
