...from page 1 The
living room, with its beautiful lake view, is a symphony of understated
elegance and sophistication. Standing in front of the very large window is a
black baby grand piano a formal acknowledgment of the husband's love of
music. Forming a beautiful backdrop, a stunning peg and lifted swag arrangement
in handscreened cotton sateen features stationary side panels that puddle
to the floor on each side of a mock Roman shade. The
custom wool rug offsets the coolness of the stone tile floor and adds texture
underfoot. An elegant chaise-end sofa with contrasting fringed pillows and an
original painting provided an interesting way to break up the long, high wall
and add some depth of color. A plush, fringed ottoman covered in cut velvet and
draped with a chenille throw, repeats the taupe tones of the furnishings and
draperies. The family room was designed as a
gathering place where family and friends can read, relax and listen to music.
"He loves to sing, and his karaoke machine is the life and soul of their
parties and gettogethers," laughs Eloise. "I reframed two of their
favorite pieces of art and introduced a safari element with animal accessories
and a lion throw pillow on the sofa." The coolness
and simplicity of the stone tile floor and granite inserts was offset by the
softness and warmth of a large, comfortable Ultra-suede modular sofa dressed up
with brocaded chenille seat cushions. Lots of decorative pillows in very
textured fabrics feature a beautiful assortment of trims including beading,
nail heads and embroidery; all characteristic of the colorful saris worn by
Indian women.
