previous In the past, medallions often were cast from plaster. They were beautiful, but also heavy and easily breakable. Today, some medallions are still made from plaster, and specialty manufacturers produce them from metals like brass, copper or stainless steel. But many modern medallions are made from lightweight, durable plastic. They are available at home improvement stores and can often be installed by do-it-yourselfers. Dressing Up A Chandelier For extra simple installation, some medallions now come in two halves. “That way, you don’t have to take down the chandelier,” Kubli says. “You just fit the medallion around it.” For a contemporary décor, Kubli suggests choosing a very simple design. “You might want to paint it to look metallic, or to blend with the ceiling,” she says. continued |
