Medallions have other uses. Kubli had one client with an electrical box in the center of her living room ceiling. “But there was a chandelier in the foyer, so she didn’t want another one in the living room,” the designer says. “We used a medallion without a hole in it to cover the box. It became a decorative architectural statement.”

Medallions work the same way in the same way in bedrooms. “If you buy a premade one with a hole for electric, you can sometimes buy a cover for the hole from the same manufacturer,” Kubli says.

Medallions can also add interest to areas other than ceilings. “Sometimes I like to add small medallions to the corners of wall panels,” Kubli says. “The possibilities are endless.” ■
