"Comfort And Elegance"
Eloise Kubli's Design At Hawks Landing Is A Perfect Balance Of Both

The high ceiling and crown moldings presented an unusual decorative opportunity in the kitchen above the cabinetry. An imaginative grouping of accessories adds a splash of color that balances the maple woodwork and neutral floor.

The entertainment center, designed by Kubli, hides a karaoke machine and audiovisual system and provides additional storage. The large stained-maple piece incorporates a very unusual spiral rope trim and crown molding. A crackle finish, seen on several pieces in the home, decorates the panels. "It adds a nice feeling of dimension to lighter surfaces and picks up on the faux marble finishes we used," she notes.
The den, adjacent to the family room, is a favorite retreat where the man of the house spends much of his time, both working and relaxing. Eloise's passion for order and symmetry concealed all his electronic equipment in the wall units and reintroduced panel detailing on the desk front.
The family room and kitchen were conjoined by a bar counter to facilitate the family's frequent entertaining. The large base of the counter was scaled down with a decorative trim that picks up the tones of the flooring. The faux marble center panels, inside a fluted trim and plinth block frame, offer a durable, textured, scuffresistant finish. The barstools have the same crackle finish and upholstery as the chairs in the breakfast nook with the addition of an interesting nail head detail.

In the formal dining room, a recessed niche was created and finished with a background that mirrored the metallic marble finish of the coffered ceiling. Its trompe l'oeil vine design reflects the iron detailing on the stone table base and ornate chandelier. An original piece of art over a custom-designed buffet plays upon the stone elements of the table and floor tile. The room's old-world elegance was further complemented by the crackle finish and traditional design of the cut velvet upholstery on the chairs. continued...
